Check Out Windows 10 and Backwards Compatibility on the Xbox One Soon

At Gamescom 2015, Microsoft announced that Windows 10 and backwards compatibility - which lets you play your Xbox 360 games on your Xbox One - is finally hitting the console in November.
In a run up to that, members of the Xbox One Preview Program will be invited to try it out with invites being sent in phases.
"Our goal is to start with a group, get feedback, then roll out to larger groups for additional feedback over time. If you're a member of the Xbox One Preview Program, you will get an invitation sent to you in an Xbox Live message," said Mike Ybarra in a post on the Xbox website.
Xbox One Preview Program members who don't opt in to the update will continue to receive regular updates and will not be removed from the Xbox One Preview Program. Ybarra's post goes on to outline that there will be new builds of this update rolled out over several weeks for those who take part and that Microsoft will improve features and fix bugs through this period.
Aside from a fresh UI and backwards compatibility, the overall experience will be a lot snappier. This will include easier and faster ways to access your games, friends, and the community as well as a revamped One Guide for video and movie apps.
It's admirable how much time and effort Microsoft have put in correcting its missteps with the Xbox One. And while it can only hope to result in strong sales, early adopters and current Xbox One owners have a lot to look forward to.

Now, Stream Xbox One Games to Windows 10 at 1080p and 60fps

With Microsoft pushing Xbox One game streaming for Windows 10 PCs and tablets in a big way, it's but obvious that the Redmond-based company would not stop there.
While the Xbox One can do 1080p and 60 frames per second in a precious few games, that hasn't stopped Microsoft from bringing 1080p/60fps game streaming from the console to Windows 10 tablets and PCs with the August update to the Xbox app on Windows 10.
"You can now stream games from your Xbox One to Windows 10 devices in high-res HD quality at 1080p/60fps. The new streaming capability works best for gamers who have home networks with adequate bandwidth," a post on Larry "Major Nelson" Hyrb, Director of Programming for Xbox Live, blog reads.
To do this, you need to access the Settings menu in the Xbox app on Windows 10 and select Game Streaming. Here you need to set the video encoding level to Very High. This will allow you to stream games from Xbox One at 1080p and 60fps. Notably, the same 'Very High Quality' setting feature was enabled unofficially by a developer last week, and Microsoft's move to offer the feature to users seems to be a response to that.
Other additions part of the Xbox app update for Windows 10 include the ability to enable or disable notifications, an animated display of your recently played games, comparing achievements with friends, and manual addition of games to the app.
In addition to this, issues revolving around sign-in, localisation, and game streaming reported by a subset of Windows 10 users have been resolved as well. On obtaining the update, the version number should be 8.8.6000.00000 or higher.

New Windows 10 Preview Build Released With Memory Improvements, More

What's new in Windows 10? Just ask any Windows Insider user. Microsoft has made available a new preview build of its latest desktop operating system to beta testers. Dubbed 10525, the new Windows 10 build comes with a number of interesting changes that users had requested from the company. The update is already available for Windows Insider users on the "Fast ring" lane.
The company says that it has received plenty of feedback over the colour options for Windows 10. In the new build, it said, it is giving users more flexibility in choosing the UI colour. You can be find the option in Settings > Personalisation > Colors, and by selecting Show color on Start, task bar, and action center. The colour now also reflects on the title bar of applications.
Microsoft says that it is also testing out memory improvements in Windows, which could reduce the amount of memory used by a process. This would allow the operating system to store more applications on physical memory (which significantly improves the speed) resulting in improved user experience. If this works, we might see fewer modern applications resuming after being left idle for a few minutes.
Readers should note there are some glitches in the new build. The built-in mobile hotspot feature, for instance, doesn't work on this build, and the Movies & TV application requires an update to patch the video playback issue. Also if you use optional languages, those will need to be re-installed manually on your computer.
What to expect next? These features will eventually arrive for Windows Insider users in "Slow ring" lane. And if users like these changes, Microsoft will likely introduce it to regular Windows 10 users in an upcoming update. The company says that it plans to test support for extensions in its Edge browser, and a new Messaging application in a coming build.

Running Windows 10? Microsoft Can Disable Your Pirated Games

It hasn't even been a month since the release of Windows 10 and Microsoft's newest desktop operating system has been stirring up one privacy related controversy after another. The latest addition is company's rather bold decision to change the license agreement, giving it the power to disable counterfeit games and unathorised hardware on computers running Windows 10.
The Redmond-based software mammoth has updated its European License Agreement ToC (first spotted by PC Authority) to note that it will not tolerate counterfeit games or hardware on any Windows 10-powered machine.
The company "may automatically check your version of the software and download software update or configuration changes, including those that prevent you from accessing the Services, playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorised hardware peripheral devices," the 7(b) clause of the revised EULA reads.
While the specifics are largely unclear, the statement suggests that Microsoft is taking a big stand against the usage of illegally obtained games, an ill practice that is significantly reducing the revenue of PC game developers alike. Whether this also extends to non-games applications, well the license explictly says games (for now), so probably not. Why Microsoft is differentiating between illegally obtained games and other apps is anyone's guess.
When contacted for details, a Microsoft spokesperson offered nothing more than a boilerplate statement. "We take claims of intellectual property infringement seriously and review them in accordance with our standard procedures. We also continue to review the content of our Windows Store periodically as described in this blog post, as we work to deliver a great customer experience and provide fair and transparent developer policies and enforcement."
It is unclear how exactly the company detects "counterfeit games" on a Windows 10 machine.
Within days of release, Windows 10 was criticised for its stand on privacy, with features like Wi-Fi sense and Cortana, amongst others, taking the blame. Since then the OS has been embrioled in one privacy related controversy after another.

Windows 10 Mobile may arrive with native call recording

Windows 10 Mobile might feature call recording. The latest Windows 10 Mobile build number 10149 contains hints about the heavily demanded feature.

So far, Microsoft has not been able to bake the functionality inside the Windows Phone platform. Not even Apple has added it in iOS, or Google in Android.
In the latest build, a new folder named Recorded Calls was found using the Files file management app. It was listed alongside the Documents, Downloads, Pictures and other folders. Apparently, Microsoft may be testing out the Call Recording feature using the Voice Recorder app packaged in the update.

It is important to note that a number of countries and regions have their own laws and regulations when it comes to call recording. In an ideal scenario, it shouldn’t happen without consent of the opposite party.
Microsoft plans to release Windows 10 on July 29. However, there is no word on the arrival for Windows 10 Mobile.

WhatsApp voice calling comes to Windows Phone

After launching it first on Android and the later bringing it to iOS, WhatsApp has finally brought over its voice calling feature to the Windows Phone version. You can now finally call your buddies using Android or iOS devices on WhatsApp, instead of Viber, or Skype, or any of the other dozen services.

Along with voice calling, the update also brings with it the ability to send voice notes, which is only available on devices running 8.1 and above. Other than that there is not much else new in this update.

Why Windows 10 may not arrive until spring

Forget Microsoft's "mobile first, cloud first" strategy. It appears that the company is going against that vision by launching Windows 10 first for PCs this summer, with the operating system available to other devices in the months following.
Microsoft Corporate VP Joe Belfiore of the Operating Systems Group described the rollout of Windows 10 as a "wave of benefit that starts in the summer and increases throughout the fall," noting that PCs will have access to the new operating system first, with staggered launches in the following months for phones, Xbox One, Arduino, and HoloLens.
Additionally, after it was leaked that Windows 10 would arrive in July, the launch timeframe is now confirmed by Gizmodo.

Some features will have to wait

According to Belfiore, users may not get all the features of Windows 10 immediately at launch. It appears that Microsoft will launch the core operating system first and add features after the launch.
Belfiore did not give specifics on the features that may not make the July launch window for Windows 10.
This isn't surprising given all the changes that Windows 10 will bring, including an updated user interface and Start menu experience, Universal apps, support for Continuum to switch between different screens and form factors, support for IoT and wearables, the addition of Cortana and a new Microsoft Edge browser.

Insider Preview available now

For those eager to get their hands on Windows 10, Microsoft is making the OS available in rough form in a Technical Preview. The Windows 10 Technical preview program has recently been renamed to Insider Preview to match the Windows Insider program.
As this is preview software, bugs and glitches are likely part of the experience at this time for early adopters.
